I've so far been unsuccessful locating a right -angle 7.4 mm OD power connector to replace Dell's. It just occurred to me though, a quick fix might be
to attach a 7/16 inside dia shaft collar over the end of the connector boot, just before where the boot meets the metal outer contact. The collar which is
3/8" thick will cut the moment arm of the force because it shifts the point of rotation from where the connector meets the panel to the outside of the

My first Dell 5160 motherboard was ruined after the power jack broke free from the motherboard. Solder joints are unsuitable for the forces developed by the 1
inch long plug. The weight of the heavy gauge cord is significant when you consider the leverage the long plug creates. I agree that a more suitable mounting
arrangement would been for Dell to have used a connector with flanges that could have been attached to the chassis or circuit board with screws.

charge either. I replaced the power jack and that didn't help. Searched craiglist in my area and found

a guy who works on laptop boards. He said he replaced a fuse that was close to the power jack on the

board. charged me $30.00, I was a happy camper. Hope that helps Bad Boy

motherboard, as I still get no power even with a new socket. I expect that I destroyed an internal connection at the socket location as I widened the hole to
accept a new socket.
